West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey and his allies are aggressively pursuing business from the tech and energy industry by promising a “red-tape cutting machine” in our state. They passed HB 2014 taking away local counties’ power to regulate data center and energy projects. It’s hard to believe, but data centers can be set up just about anywhere with no legal mechanism to stop them unless we make new laws returning local control to county governments.

The goal of this website is to track the data center and energy projects popping up around the state, often with no notice to local governments or residents. We also hope the information leads to changes in the current state law and engagement from the people of West Virginia so we can protect our land, our farms, and local control.
