On the opening day of the 2024 state legislative session, Senate Bill 171 was introduced. If enacted, it would prohibit county commissions from adopting ordinances, regulations, or license requirements that exceed state law regarding agricultural operations. The bill goes so far as to also revoke existing rules that are stricter than state law.

It would also prevent county commissions from prohibiting the use, purchase, or application of any federally or state-registered pesticide, herbicide, or insecticide product.
