Mt. Storm Combined Cycle Station
Gas plant
Dominion Energy wants to build a natural gas power plant of about 2.6 gigawatts on the grounds of its Mt. Storm Power Station in Grant County. The existing 1.6-gigawatt coal plant there would keep running.
The air permit application describes four gas turbines arranged in two combined-cycle units on about 190 acres. It puts total output at about 2,752 megawatts under standard test conditions. The turbines would burn mainly natural gas and could also burn low-sulfur fuel oil.
Dominion says the power will serve its customers in Virginia. A company spokesperson added that excess power could be used by the PJM regional grid, which includes West Virginia.
